Yesterday Mattel and Walmart Canada launched a QR Code virtual toy store in Toronto’s downtown walkway near where Brookfield Place connects with Union Station. The virtual toy store, created by Brandfire Marketing Group in conjunction with IMA Outdoor Inc., features two walls of 3D images of this seasons most popular toys (image below). Shoppers simply scan a QR code to purchase the Mattel holiday toys from Walmart with free shipping.
Canada’s very first QR Code virtual store was in exactly the same place. Last April the country’s largest online health and beauty store Well.ca opened its version of a pop-up store (video below). This particular campaign recently won the 2012 Outside the Box Achievement Award from Canada Post.
At this time last year Sears and Kmart featured top seasonal toys with similar QR Code shopping walls across the US, are Mattel and Walmart emulating success or duplicating failure?
