Update: Starbucks have dropped QR Codes in favor of the PDF417 barcode.
Starbucks are testing payment by iPhone in sixteen selected stores in Silicon Valley and Seattle. The iPhone app displays a QR Code that can be used just like a Starbucks Card to make purchases.

Very interesting. Someone did a mock up of this a while ago to show the possibilities. Maybe they saw it. Very cool idea. It seems like QR codes and getting ready to go mainstream.
Thanks for the blog, not many qr blogs out there.
Danny
When I first read about this, I was thinking that Starbucks was doing something like adding a QR scanner to their app so you could scan your card from your iPhone. That seemed somewhat interesting. However, displaying QR codes on your iPhone seems even more interesting.
I’ve mentioned your blog post in an entry on my blog which I’ve also cross posted to a marketing blog. It will be interesting to see what this does to the future of QR codes.
