At first sight QR Codes are a natural for the black and white stones of basalt and limestone used in the calçada portuguesa (Portuguese pavement), a traditional style pavement used in many pedestrian areas of Portugal for hundreds of years. Or are they? It is being reported that the QR Code recently installed in Chiado, Lisbon (video below) is impossible to scan in bright sunlight. If you are able to scan the QR Code it resolves to tourist information in English and Portuguese. Regular 2d-code readers will know that QR Codes on a reflective surface are never a good idea but with some ingenuity it is possible to take advantage of sunlight in your campaign.
