QRpedia was available in April but yesterdays post on Wikimedia blog now makes it official. QRpedia generates a QR Code for any Wikipedia URL. When scanned the QR Code resolves to the QRpedia server and looks for the Wikipedia entry to display in the mobile devices preferred language (determined from the HTTP header). Ideal for museums and far superior to resolving to an entry in the same language for every user. The image below shows the QR Code for one of the geology exhibits in the Derby Museum and Art Gallery. The code resolves to the Wikipedia entry for Gold in one of 140 languages. International readers please try it and leave a comment!
