For several years NFC has been stuck in the ‘it will take off next year ” phase and is still very much a solution looking for a problem. There may be no killer app for NFC yet but that has not stopped enterprising marketers experimenting with the technology. Recently McDonald’s in Singapore has used NFC tags to turn their tables into interactive racing tracks and called them HappyTables. By placing NFC sticker tags beneath the top surface it has converted tables to Scaletrix tracks for kids (video below). After downloading the McParty Run app users simply hold their NFC enabled Android smartphones over the table to play the game. Apparently the success of the first Ronald and Friends go-kart game has led to the possible development of new HappyTable games including Whac-A-Mole and Battleship.
