Spanish Operators go for Datamatrix and EZcodes

Scanbuy has announced the launch of an interoperable 2D barcode system for Orange, Telefónica Móviles, and Vodafone, who together provide wireless services to 98 percent of Spain. The system will generate EZcodes and Datamatrix Codes, no mention of QR Codes. Full press release.

  1. Gatekeeper and proprietary standards? Sounds like the those misguided attempts to commercialise parts of the internet, which at its heart is an open standard. This is a retrograde step in advancing competing 2D codes for international markets and in particular in one of the most visited countries in the world.
