Sergey Odinokov, IT Department Director of the Rubicon Group emailed to say that iMatrix has developed the first 2d barcode recognition software for the iPhone. (Also see later post iPhone, QR Code, Datamatrix and now ShotCode)
There are also a couple of interesting applications on their Website. One where you can generate QR codes for Google search results and another that produces QR codes for tag clouds.

Sergey says keep an eye on iMatrix because integration with proprietary formats and resolution services is imminent.
IPhone is a great place to plant the seed for viral growth of 2d barcode.
If adoption grows with IPhone users it will spread elsehwere.
