Using a QR Code For Coupon Control

Here is an interesting way to use QR Codes as a control mechanism. An interactive retail window in a busy shopping Mall displays a “Claw” game, a video version of the old candy grabber machine arcade game. This holiday period every Mall customer gets one go and the chance to win one of 300 prizes, how do you control the campaign? 2XM Interactive used coupons with unique QR Codes that were handed out by the stores for any purchase in the Mall. The QR Code could be be scanned by the interactive display to validate the user while also ensuring that the coupon could only be used once (video below). If the customer wins a prize they take the coupon to the information booth to collect it and the agent there has a scanner that confirms that the QR Code is a winning one.

  1. I like it–it may need a big supply of hand sanitizer nearby, but as far as hi-tech, it’s great.

  2. So does the game actually work or is it just fancy graphics on top of the coupon redemption.
