New EPA Fuel Economy Labels Keep QR Code

Last August we wrote about the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed QR Coded fuel economy labels. The sixty day consultation process ended and the decision has been announced today, the QR Codes stay but the letters are gone (images below). The new labels will be required on all new cars starting with 2013 models but automakers may also voluntarily adopt the new labels earlier for model year 2012 vehicles.
