Supermarket Trials In-Store Mobile Shopping

Sainsbury’s, the third largest chain of supermarkets in the UK, is trialling a new service in three stores called Mobile Scan & Go. It allows customers to scan items as they shop using their smartphone and pay at the till without unloading their trolley (images below). Customers download the app and register. Then they can check-in by scanning the QR Code located at the front of the store to start shopping. Customers scan the UPC product codes on their selected items as they place them in their trolley and pay at the till in the normal way but without unloading their trolley and after scanning the check-out QR Code.
