22% Of The Fortune 50 Companies Are Using QR Codes

A new study by Burson-Marsteller and Proof Integrated Communications titled “The Fortune 50 Use of Mobile” has found that 22% of the Fortune 50 are placing QR codes in magazines, on billboards, or at any convenient location to deliver relevant content to smartphone users (image below). The data was collected between October 25 and November 5 and the full press release can be found here.

  1. Once upon a time, I believe that a similar statistic was promoted for the # of Fortune 50 (or 500?) companies who had “islands” in 2nd Life.

    Incomplete statistics that read as hype worry me. Apparently, there are no substantial statistics available? How many QR readers, by Country, are in the market? How many scans/day, by Country, take place? A graph to show the trend in relation to growth of the smart phone market?

    For all of the big name corporations who’ve used QR, are there any supporting statistics about the success of their use?

    Using incomplete statistics to hype an industry is often a desperation move. I hope that isn’t the case.
