Debenhams QR Code

With more department stores in the UK than any other group Debenhams launched earlier this week a fully transactional iPhone app. Billed by Debenhams as a ‘virtual shop assistant’ the comprehensive app includes a bar code scanner (full press release). QR Codes are appearing in-store already and today 2d-code reader Victor Apollo spotted one in the Leeds store, which he reports did not scan with his android phone. I was however able to scan it from Victor’s picture below and it reads: “DB::ALERT::Thank you for downloading the Debenhams iPhone app! Enjoy a FREE tea or coffee in this store. Simply show your Debenhams app at the Restaurant or Cafe till in store! [Only valid today for one time use]”

  1. Thought you might like to see the email (http://goo.gl/PR3j) that accompanied the Debenhams QR Code poster campaign.

Too much data for our liking, which created a complex code, resulting in some readers having difficulty reading it.

Nice idea though and the app looks great!
